Grain Bagging: An Argentinian Development for the World

The silobag is considered a temporary and hermetic storage system, suitable for the storage of all types of grains, seeds, fodder and solid fertilizers. “Temporary” refers to the fact that the silobag cannot be reused, and not to the period in which the product can be safely stored. For its part, the hermetic condition is only achieved if the bag does not have perforations and its ends are correctly closed. The main elements involved in this technology are the silobag, the bagging machine, the extraction machine and the self-unloading hopper. .

The experiences in its application, and the analyses and investigations carried out in this regard, allow us to identify different advantages of the Silobolsa storage system:

  • A low-cost field storage system, although it is also used by stockpiles and industry.
  • A versatile system that can be combined with other storage systems.
  • The grain can be stored in the field simultaneously with the harvest.
  • Instant stockpiling capacity with no idle space.
  • Storage of all types of grains, seeds, fertilizers or by-products of grain processing.
  • Great possibilities for segregation by quality, hybrid or variety, etc. due to its adjustable capacity.
  • The agrimachinery currently available for filling and emptying the bag has high work capacities.
  • The atmospheric modification produced in the silo bag allows less development of insects and eventually less fungal damage.

Argentina is a pioneer in the Silobolsa system, and set a benchmark in the agrimachinery related to the bagging and extraction of the grain. These machines are present around the world, operating in those countries that have adopted the Silobolsa system, increasing their productivity and improving crop management.

In addition, it is important to note that the Argentine agrimachinery industries, when exporting their products, have the necessary know-how to train on their use and maintenance, thanks to the participation of INTA (National Institute of Agricultural Technology) in missions and international exhibitions. This unique capability shows that Argentina, in terms of the Silobolsa complex, does not offer products but rather integral solutions.
