Great Strides in 2023

Agrievolution made strategic strides in 2023, recognizing and promoting the vital role of agricultural mechanization and precision agriculture technologies in addressing global food needs. Our endeavors have been marked by impactful collaborations, key milestones, and a commitment to our mission.

The first meeting of the year commenced in Las Vegas in March, setting the stage for a year of positive development.  Actions arising from this meeting included our participation in a Global Technical Meeting hosted by The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), with a focus on the construction sector. Acknowledging the value of such gatherings, our Steering Committee is explor

UK machinery market entering tougher period

After three years of unusual disruptions due to the UK’s exit from the European Union, the Covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine, 2023 was thankfully a quieter year, allowing the economy to return to something more like normal. The UK also avoided the sort of extreme political disruption which was seen during 2022 – we even managed to have the same Prime Minister all the way through the year. There was still political uncertainty around, though, with a general election due to take place in 2024. The British weather also avoided the extremes of 2022 but high levels of rainfall from July onwards had implications for both agricultural and machinery markets.

Global and Domestic Impacts on US Equipment Sales

The US economy seems to have dodged a recession as inflation subsides. However, many economic, geopolitical, and weather factors that dominated most of 2023 have been inherited into 2024. High interest rate, China's sluggish economic recovery, strengthened US dollar, the Russia-Ukraine war, and the sprawling Mideast & Red Sea crisis; both drought and frigid cold weather conditions in the Panama Canal and the US river system, respectively; and the delayed signing of the Farm Bill have all added economic uncertainty and extra costly burden on global agricultural and food trade and supply chain. It remains to be seen how these factors are going to impact US grains and oilseed plantin

2023: a year of contrasts before the crisis?

It is still a little early to assess the results for 2023. What we can say at this stage is that 2023 marked a real turnaround in order intake. Already noticeable in the second half of 2022, the fall in order intake intensified in 2023, to stand at -19% in volume terms compared with the previous year. All the agricultural equipment sectors are in the same boat. This shortage of orders will be reflected in company sales in 2024, a year in which we can expect a 10% to 20% drop in invoicing.

The agricultural situation is gloomy: prices of agricultural products continue to fall faster than costs, tightening the grip on farm margins. Animal product prices, which peaked at record levels

Argentinian farmers usually reinvest their profits in the renewal of agricultural machinery. With this forecast in agriculture production for 2024, it is possible to have an increase in the demand of the domestic agrimachinery market. The two main trade shows, which are held in March and June, will demonstrate the level of farmer’s investment in machinery.

Trends in global agricultural engineering identified from Agritechnica 2023

After a four year hiatus due to the pandemic, Agritechnica opened its doors again this past November to host the international ag community. The world’s largest agricultural trade show not only featured over 2,800 exhibitors from 52 countries and welcomed more than 470,000 professional visitors from 149 countries, it also showcased the current state of agricultural engineering. Trends in the evolution of agricultural machinery were featured in areas including tractors and combine harvesters, drilling and sowing, plant protection as well as fertilization technology, and digital systems & IT.

Italian Domestic market in 2023 and EIMA International 2024

The unfavourable economic situation, combined with the delay in public incentives for the purchase of latest-generation agricultural machinery, will slow down the growth of the italian  tractor market in 2023 after the high sales volumes of the two-year period 2021/2022. Registration data - processed by FederUnacoma on the basis of registrations provided by the Ministry of Infrastructures and Transport - show a 12.9% drop for tractors, with 17,613 vehicles registered (they were 20,211 in 2022). The drop mainly affected medium-power models, from 57 to 130 kW (-23%), while low-power models from 20 t

Market summary

The domestic tractor market in Japan in 2023 was 90% compared to the previous year. In addition to the decrease in the number of farm households, this is due to the fact that farmers' purchasing appetite has not yet recovered.

RUSSIAN AGRICULTURAL MACHINERY PRODUCTION IN 2023

The production of agricultural machinery in Russia has grown annually since 2013. In 2022, domestic factories were faced with a very difficult situation due to the cessation of supplies of components from Western countries to our country. In a short time, the manufactures were able to organize their own production of some components, and also reoriented themselves to Russian partners and partners from friendly countries. Even the production of such complex machines as combine harvesters was stopped for a very short period of time for such a situation. It is not a fact that a similar successful example can be found in world practice.

In 2023, when the issue with components was reso
